Clayton, New Jersey
With a heart as expansive as the universe and a spirit as bright as the sun, Linda C. Phelps-Hutson danced her way into the cosmos on January 24, 2025. Born April 28, 1954, in Philadelphia, PA, Linda was a force of nature. Her infectious laughter, compassionate heart, and adventurous spirit were her trademark, inspiring everyone around her. The scriptures say, "Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven" (Matthew 5:16). Linda embodied this verse, radiating love and joy to all around her.
Linda spent her professional life in Human Resources and Accounting for the print media at the Jewish Exponent and then for waste management industry, where she worked tirelessly before retiring in 2021 from Convanta, Camden. But her true passion lay in her hobbies and her community engagement. A voracious reader, music lover, and courageous dancer, Linda never missed an opportunity to hit the dance floor or immerse herself in a good book. She found purpose in her work with Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., serving her community with her characteristic loving spirit. Above all, Linda cherished her family. Married on January 7, 1978, she and her husband Samuel Hutson built a life in Clayton, New Jersey, filled with love, laughter, and a pinch of adventure.
Linda is survived by her husband, Samuel Hutson, her children, Sarita Hutson and Samuel Hutson, her siblings, Theresa Cardwell (Fred), Carla Phelps, David Phelps, and Earl III. Several Nieces and Nephews. She was also the proud grandmother of Syair Hutson. Her memory will be cherished by all who knew her, including her countless friends and community members.
Linda is preceded in death by her parents, Earl Phelps II and Charlotte Phelps, and her brother, Rodney Phelps.
Her life was a melody, a beautiful symphony of love, courage, and compassion. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to such a vibrant woman, but we take comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to dance among us. In honor of Linda let your hearts be light, your spirits be adventurous, and your love be abundant. Please share your memories and upload photos of our beloved Linda to the memorial page. May her legacy continue to inspire and bring joy to us all.
