Mavis Rose DuCille, of Williamstown, New Jersey, passed away on March 21, 2026. A native of Kingston, Jamaica, she was born on January 11, 1933, to Mr. Stanley and Ethleen Atkins. She was the youngest of five children. She was educated at East Branch Catholic and Kingston Senior School. She worked at the Jamaica Times Press and Capitol Press LTD, where she met and married the late Leroy A. DuCille in 1957. To this union, came six children- Annette Thomas (Dennis Thomas), Donovan DuCille (Sherry Rich-DuCille), Carol Presley (Anthony Kirby) (Rodney Presley), Trevor DuCille (Pauline Drummond-DuCille), Menia Ferren (James Ferren), and Venesse Dorsey (Darryl Dorsey). Mavis migrated to the USA with her family in 1968. She was a dedicated home health aide with Bayada until her retirement in 1999. She always loved nursing and how fulfilling it was to give the best care she was capable of giving her patients. A beloved mother, a loving friend, a God-fearing Christian, and a compassionate soul; Mavis was the embodiment of unyielding strength and unconditional love. She went home to glory on March 21, 2026, from her residence in Williamstown, New Jersey.
Mavis was a woman of many talents and passions. In addition to nursing, she was also a successful entrepreneur, running a clothing store that reflected her unique sense of style and spirit. Her creativity did not end with her business; in her free time, Mavis loved to create intricate crochet designs, each stitch woven with love and care. But above all, it was her family that mattered most to Mavis. Her love for her children was a testament to her selfless nature and generous heart.
Mavis is survived by her six adoring children, 22 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Stanley and Ethleen Atkins, her late husband, Leroy A. DuCille, and her sisters, Violet Mclean and Ruby Duncan. As we mourn her loss, we also celebrate the remarkable life she lived and the love she shared. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept my faith,” (2 Timothy 4:7). Mavis lived by these words, embodying the courageous spirit of this verse throughout her life.
